Winter is almost here and that means that many people are now putting their traditional outdoor gardening methods on hold and switching to hydroponic growing – An indoor growing method that is rising in popularity across the world each day. But because you are reading this, I am guessing you already know what hydroponic growing is, and you are simply looking for tips to enable you to grow as greatly as possible within your grow tents during the winter months. So, here goes…
Winter Hydroponic Tips
Monitor day and night temperatures –
You should closely monitor daytime and nighttime temperatures inside your grow tent using a quality temperature and humidity meter. When taking temperature and humidity reading you should position the probe at the base level of your plants, and aim for target temperatures of between 24C and 28C during the day (lights on) and between 2C and 5C at night (lights off).
Run you grow lights at night –
Many people choose to have their grow lights on during the day and then off at night, however it sometimes best practice to do this the opposite way round during winter. This is because nighttime, when temperatures drop, can be freezing cold and far too cold for plants to grow well.
Get a hydroponic heater –
You should invest in a heater for your grow tent if you are looking for the best hydroponic growing results this winter. If you grow tent is on the smaller size a tubular heater should serve you well however if you are the owner of a larger grow tent you should consider getting an oil filled radiator which will heat your entire growing space. If you invest in a great quality heater for you grow room you will find that it will save you money in the long run as it will not need to be turned on as much.
Drawing in fresh air –
When growing hydroponically many people draw fresh air into their grow tents from outdoors. Whilst this is fine during summer, winter outdoor air is freezing cold, and therefore during winter air drawn into grow tents is better when coming from indoors instead of outside.
Seal off you grow room –
This one may sound obvious, but you need to completely seal off your grow ten ensuring that it is 100{b5ce6c21b8d35e18b06b15afce00261d37d23248a31df900c1450197c0c944a7} draught proof. Fill in any holes, seal up any gaps and ensure that no air is seeping through your door and window areas. This will allow your plants to grow as greatly as possible.
